Ally is like a knowledgeable friend you can call or message. Call or message in plain language. Ally listens, explains clearly, and with your permission can take action on your device to help you get things done.
Say simple phrases and Ally will use the right tool in the background:
“Scan Text” → Opens OCR to read a document, label, or menu. You can hear it aloud, copy the text, translate, or summarize.
“What’s on my calendar?” → Requests Calendar access on your device and answers from your events such as today, tomorrow, or next week.
“Describe the scene in front of me” → Opens the camera with your consent, takes a photo, and describes people, objects, text, and layout in plain language.
“Search the web for …” → When a question needs fresh information, Ally performs a web search and summarizes reliable sources.
“What’s the weather like this afternoon where I am?” → Uses your location with permission to give a concise forecast.
Use focused helpers for different needs. Each Ally can have its own tone and language. You can change each Ally individually at any time.
Examples:
Productivity Ally: straight-to-the-point, action-focused
Travel Ally: brainstorms plans and proactively suggests packing/routes
Funny Ally: playful chats and jokes
You can have Allies in ‘Automatic language’ or a set language, whichever you prefer.
Voice or message: call your Ally or send a message. Switch anytime.
Clear feedback: Ally says what it is doing and why.
Your control: camera, calendar, microphone, and location are requested by the operating system. You can deny, allow once, or change later.
Here are common ways people use Ally:
Scan and understand documents: letters, bills, receipts, menus. Get a clean text version, translation, and a short summary.
Organize and plan: ask what is next on your calendar, turn ideas into simple checklists, and prepare for trips or appointments.
Brainstorm and write: explore ideas for travel, gifts, or projects. Draft messages and rewrite text to be clearer or friendlier.
Translate this: translate text and ask for simple explanations of difficult terms.
Navigate surroundings: describe what is in front of you and read visible signs or labels.
Stay informed: ask general questions that benefit from web search or request a quick weather update.
Work and study: summarize long pasted text, create study notes, and generate action lists from your instructions.
Play Games: play trivia quiz or adventure games.
Turn a few steps into one simple command. Instead of telling Ally to do the same routine tasks over and over, just create a shortcut and do it all at once. Normally, you'd have to tell Ally to do each step separately:
"Ally, can you scan this menu?"
"Now, translate it to Turkish."
"Okay, now give me a three-bullet summary."
With a Shortcut, you can bundle all of those steps together. Here are some examples:
Scan → Translate to Turkish → Summarize in 3 bullets
Photo → Describe → Read any visible text
Name a Shortcut, for example “Travel Docs”. You can run it by voice (Siri Shortcuts) or tap the Shortcut. You do not need to repeat steps every time.
