jesse’s story: ally as a trusted tool for learning, living, and creating

finding new ways to connect and create

jesse anderson has spent years advocating for accessibility in tech and gaming. he’s legally blind and works as an assistive technology specialist in minnesota, helping students with vision loss build independence. but beyond his job, jesse is a creator. he runs illegally sighted, a youtube channel that reviews tech, games, and virtual reality from a low vision perspective.

when he discovered ally, he saw something different. “it wasn’t just another app to check when i needed something,” he said. “it became part of how i move through the day.”

a third pillar in his toolkit

jesse already relied on screen readers and magnifiers. ally became the third piece, something conversational, context-aware, and flexible. during the beta, he tested it everywhere: from studying history facts to checking movie trivia with a friend. he even used it to describe visuals in games, scan menus, and answer spontaneous questions.

“you don’t have to talk like a robot,” he said. “you just speak like you’re talking to a friend.”

ally in his world and work

jesse didn’t stop at personal use. he started showing ally to the students he works with, especially teens navigating high school and early college. “i’d give them examples like studying for a history test, or using the camera to describe something on their desk,” he said. “they were blown away.”

he’s also played with building custom allies for fun: like a drum coach, a trivia master, and even a dungeon master for holiday-themed adventures. one of his favorite memories? creating a christmas-themed d&d story where ally guided him through a quirky elf rebellion to save santa. “it made me laugh out loud. i had to hold it in so i wouldn’t interrupt ally mid-sentence.”

building a future with ally

jesse sees ally not just as an assistant, but as a platform with huge potential. he dreams of a future where ally can remember what you talked about yesterday, help guide him through live environments, and give real-time feedback on things like gameplay or daily routines.

he summed it up simply: “ally just fits. it works the way i think. and that makes a difference.”

try ally for yourself

jesse found in ally a blend of utility and joy—something that supports him at work, in creative play, and in day-to-day life.
